Molly Murdock

Molly is a Ph.D. candidate and teaching assistant in music theory at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where this year she won the annual Prize for Excellence in Teaching.  She holds degrees from Michigan State University, University of Virginia, University of Central Florida, and the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy in Hungary.

Molly’s research interests are Béla Bartók’s choral works and the serial compositions of Elisabeth Lutyens. She is currently preparing an English edition of Bartók’s Twenty-Seven Choruses for Women and Children.

This spring, Molly created a website of excerpts from music by women to help educators diversify their classroom repertoire: MusicTheoryExamplesbyWomen.com. While at Michigan State, she created the Women in Music Lecture Series, an ongoing project which showcases extraordinary musical women.

She spent many years in the Washington, D.C. area teaching and conducting in public schools, synagogues, churches, and helped develop the theory curriculum for Fairfax Choral Society. She directed the Virginia Ambassadors of Music and is the Riverbend Opera Founding Music Director.

Aside from music, Molly volunteers at the Susan B. Anthony Museum & House, trains in jiu-jitsu, and is an unpaid political activist.
